Description

This Rare Cognac comes from the commune of Brousse, near Matha, from a small estate. The current producer, born in 1952, still has Cognacs distilled by his father and grandfather. It was only in 1950 that the estate acquired a traditional 16 hectoliter still (Maresté), which then ran on wood (during the day, for brouillis), and coal (at night, for bonne-chauffes). Previously, as in most Charentais estates, only a small boiler of 500 or 600 liters, allowed the distillation of the wine production. This Cognac is the fruit of the blending of two batches, made on the advice of a great house of Cognac, by the winegrower himself. The Cognac was bottled during 2000. Amber color. Straight, clean, old Fins Bois nose, with delicate rancio, but what strikes you is the intensity of the red fruit notes, blackcurrant bud, redcurrant, cherry. The nose is of a Rare quality, with a complexity that won't be forgotten. On the palate, the attack is straightforward, almost easy, unsurprisingly giving the spicy notes (sandalwood, cedar, pepper) you'd expect from a Cognac of this age. The surprise comes immediately afterwards, the first reassuring notes suddenly giving way to blackcurrant, chiseled and bewitching aromas, which suddenly burst forth, giving this Cognac a whole new dimension. The finish is long and complex. Superb.
